Introduction
Ensuring the highest quality of wheat and flour for the residents of Gilgit-Baltistan is a top priority for the Food Department. To achieve this, we have implemented a comprehensive quality assurance program that addresses every stage of the procurement, transportation, storage, and milling processes.
Firstly
Firstly, the Food Department has successfully negotiated with the federal government to procure 100 percent indigenous high-quality wheat. This ensures that the wheat we receive is of the best possible standard, meeting stringent quality criteria right from the source.
Secondly
Secondly, strict policies have been established and communicated to contractors responsible for transporting the wheat to Gilgit-Baltistan. These policies include mandatory proper covering and sealing of the wheat during transportation to protect it from contamination and adverse weather conditions. By enforcing these measures, we maintain the integrity and quality of the wheat throughout its journey. Upon receipt of the wheat at our depots, we have made proper arrangements to retain its quality. This includes systematic storage solutions that prevent moisture and pest infiltration, ensuring that the wheat remains fresh and uncontaminated until it is ready for milling.
Regular Testing
Additionally, regular testing of the water used for washing wheat and flour is conducted in the Food Lab Gilgit by the concerned Assistant Director (AD) or Civil Supply Officer (CSO). This testing ensures that the water and flour quality meets the necessary health and safety standards. Any mills found violating the SOPs face strict actions to ensure compliance and maintain the highest quality of flour production. Moreover, after the enactment of Gilgit-Baltistan Food Act 2021, the mandate of Food department GB will expand and it will also cover markets, hotels and other places where food is being manufactured, packed and distributed. In this way, Food department will ensure the quality of food in all the aforementioned arenas.
conclusion
In sum, through rigorous quality assurance measures, from procurement to processing, the Food Department is dedicated to provide the best quality wheat and flour to the residents of Gilgit-Baltistan. Our commitment to quality assurance reflects our dedication to the health and well-being of our community, ensuring that every household receives safe, nutritious, and high-quality food products.
