The Food Department, Gilgit-Baltistan works to ensure the availability of essential food commodities, protect public health through food safety regulation, improve food quality and nutritional standards, and promote consumer awareness throughout the region.

Operating within the framework of the Gilgit-Baltistan Food Act, 2022, Food Fortification Act 2025 and other applicable laws and regulations, the Department carries out food inspections, sampling, laboratory coordination, licensing and registration, compliance monitoring, enforcement actions and food safety awareness initiatives.

The Department also manages the procurement, storage, transportation and distribution of subsidized wheat to support food security and equitable access to essential food commodities across Gilgit-Baltistan.

Through transparent governance, interdepartmental coordination and public participation, the Department aims to strengthen the regional food control system and promote a culture of food safety, accountability and nutritional well-being.
